Performance Analysis In Football

The PFSA have a large selection of courses under the performance analysis banner as we cement our stance as the leading provider of scouting and analysis courses in both the UK and overseas.
What is performance analysis?
Performance analysis is an emerging discipline in football. It uses data science and technological tools to evaluate the performance of players in an objective way. Although it relies primarily on quantitative data, performance analysis also draws on more qualitative methods, such as video analysis of tactics and formations.
Performance analysis has three main applications at football clubs:
Contextualising Performance
Analysis provides coaches and other performance staff with an objective perspective on their players’ performance
Dissecting Tactical Systems and Gameplay
The analyst seeks to understand how tactical principles work in match situations, to help in the construction of an effective game plan.
Evolving the Training Model
Analysing training sessions provides performance staff with information that can be used to aid player development.
The performance analysts role
The performance analyst carries out four key functions:
- Data Collection and Interpretation
- Technical and Tactical Feedback
- Video Analysis and Telestration, and Data Visualisation
- Data Visualisation
