Role Overview
Cardiff City Football Club is looking for a sharp, driven 1st Team Performance Analyst to join its performance analysis department. This is a role right at the heart of the first team’s day-to-day work.
The successful candidate will support the department across the full analysis cycle. That means managing individual player learning plans, keeping comprehensive video and data libraries linked to the club’s game model, and delivering high-quality post-match and opposition analysis. They will also help capture and process training and match footage. In short, the work feeds directly into the long-term development and match-day performance of the first team squad. It’s hands-on, fast-paced, and it matters.
Key Responsibilities
Individual Player Development & Learning Plans
The role holder will own and maintain Individual Learning Plans for a group of first-team players. This includes building a structured database of relevant training and game clips that support each player’s specific development goals. Beyond that, the successful candidate will proactively produce insight reports and video packages that highlight development trends and performance patterns, both at individual and team level.
Game Model & Best Practice Database
A central part of the role involves building and maintaining a database of training and match best-practice clips aligned to the club’s game model. The content must stay easy to access for coaches and players alike. The role holder will also contribute to the ongoing refinement of the game model, using video and data as the evidence base.
Match & Training Capture / League Compliance
On the capture side, the successful candidate will:
Film and code all first-team training sessions, enabling immediate video review.
Assist with live capture for home and away first-team matches, including wide-angle filming and live coding support.
Manage full compliance with league standards for uploading and delivering match footage and associated data.
Data Analysis & Reporting
The role holder is responsible for producing high-quality post-match technical data reports at both individual and team level, offering clear insight against evolving benchmarks. They will also prepare pre-match opposition data reports and carry out ad-hoc opposition analysis as required by the coaching staff. Maintaining and updating league-wide databases across the season sits within this remit too, supporting the monthly data reviews that keep the department sharp.
General Support
The successful candidate will assist in the delivery of unit and individual meetings to the first-team playing squad, support research projects, and respond to ad-hoc requests from senior management. As with any elite environment, the role holder will also undertake other reasonable duties as directed by the Head of Analysis and coaching staff.
Club Responsibilities
Whoever takes on this role will be expected to take responsibility for their own health, safety and welfare in line with the club’s Health and Safety Policy. They will also protect personal and confidential data in compliance with UK GDPR and the club’s Data Protection Policy, engage fully with training and development activity, and act at all times in a manner that supports the club’s commitment to diversity, equality and equal opportunities.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience Required
The ideal candidate will bring a strong mix of technical ability, football understanding and organisational discipline. The following are important:
A degree in Performance Analysis or Sports Science, or an MSc in a related field (desirable).
Previous experience as a Performance Analyst at a professional football club (desirable).
Strong practical knowledge of industry-leading analysis software, including Hudl, Sportscode, Insight, Wyscout, Final Cut Pro, Keynote and Microsoft Excel.
Exceptional IT skills, with proficiency across both Apple and Windows platforms.
A solid grasp of current tactical trends and the working demands of professional football.
A proven ability to manage and organise large video and data libraries, including individual player clip databases and best-practice libraries linked to a game model.
Beyond the technical side, the successful candidate will have a strong work ethic and the drive to push the department forward. They will be able to work under their own initiative as well as part of a team, with excellent organisation, time management, and both verbal and written communication skills. The ability to prioritise a busy workload, adapt quickly and stay flexible in a demanding environment is essential.
